Alexander McQueen autumn winter collection 2011 at Paris Fashion Week – Alexander McQueen autumn winter fashion trends for women 2011: With more than 500 metres of hand-pleated chiffon forming the train, and a bodice hand-embroidered in chiffon, tulle and pearls, the astounding ‘wedding dress’ which completed Sarah Burton’s collection for the Alexander McQueen label, shown in Paris tonight, was fit for a queen. But it nearly didn’t make the catwalk at all, when the model had a problem with the six-inch platform shoes.
In the confusion backstage, the creation – which Burton described as “her favourite” – missed the finale parade. And the gown was hastily re-organised for a few remaining photographers in an empty venue, once the show was over.
Burton, the Manchester-born designer, who is widely rumoured to be creating Catherine Middleton’s bridal gown, laughed off the leaked stories which say she is designing the ‘dress of the century’ for the royal wedding next month.
“Tomorrow it could be Stella McCartney or Bruce Oldfield… who knows?” she said backstage.
Her collection for autumn/winter 2011 bore all the hallmarks of a royal appointment, however, and was inspired by the idea of “a snow queen and her court.”
Each of the 34 pieces was individually designed, hand-crafted, embroidered and beaded to an haute couture standard.
The collection was shown at the Paris prêt-à-porter season tonight in the gloomy dungeons of La Conciergerie, near Notre Dame, which housed prisoners during the French revolution, including Marie-Antoinette before they were sent to guillotine.
